Field Report: From an Enthusiastic Cross Country Skiier
We have received several requests by Nordic skiers, fat bikers, walkers and runners for a Pathways grooming preference of 2” of snow packed/rolled (vs the current approach of “plow to asphalt”). What’s your preference? For all pathways , Stilson to the Aspens to Lake Creek Bridge (along Moose-wilson Road), Town to Stilson (Hwy 22 Pathway)?, Von Gotard pathway?
Friday morning I happily discovered their was just a skiff (half inch? Inch?) of snow left on the pathway.
I was able to ski directly from my house (Indian Trails) via the pathway to the South Park Loop groomed section and back. How delightful! Notice when there is just that much snow left it accommodates skiers, walkers, AND bikers (see tracks)… Several people saw me and commented “what a great idea”! It would be so amazing to always be able to ski from Old West Cabins all the way to the Death Canyon Trailhead and all points in between — theoretically possible but not usually accommodated by PLOWED pathways (see above.)
PSIA Outreach Clinic – Trail Creek
Gentle snowfall and beautiful groomed tracks were the setting for the PSIA Outreach Clinic Sunday sponsored by 22Nordic at Trail Creek. Roger Smith, PSIA LVL lll, led the clinic for aspiring Nordic instructors and a few preparing for their PSIA certifications. Clinic was free and open to any Nordic enthusiast who has a desire to teach Nordic. Participants were from several organizations; Parks & Rec, Snake River Sporting Club, 22Nordic, as well as a few independents.

Race Day Version 2.0
Another great day of Johnny Curtis Memorial racing awaits, with mass start skate races beginning at 10 AM today. Don’t forget that you can catch the shuttle bus from Stilson which will drop you off right in front of the cabin.
Some of our own skiers had impressive results Friday; you can find all of the times of the nearly 400 skiers at the event website. If all goes according to plan, the woods trails will receive grooming this morning which recreational skiers can access either via the practice loop (map also on the event website) or from the end of the Old Pass Road.
Groomer’s choice for today is to come cheer on the racers.

Have those sunglasses handy as rumors of sunshine are in the future forecast! Continued winds and persistent snow showers have deposited ample accumulations onto the trails over the past week. Future forecast is calling for calmer weather after Wednesday. Overall, the course continues to groom out excellent. Throughout this weekend expect softer conditions and possible drifting to occur after the morning groom if windy. Enjoy and cross your fingers this wind lets up!
