Trail Report: Trail Creek
From 23 degrees at 8:30am to 35 degrees at 1pm ( perhaps even warmer??) good snow, grooming, good times, mostly good etiquette on “social distancing” (except with a few good friends)! Good “off-season” spring classic and skate skiing!
Final JH Nordic Masters Rec Skate Ski Clinic Cancelled
Due to current coronavirus health concerns, we regret that this Thursday’s final Nordic Masters Rec Skate Ski Clinic is cancelled. We have had a fun season, with outstanding professional coaching by an Olympic medalist, national collegiate skiers, world master skiers, JH Ski Club coaches, and a great group of participants including locals and visitors.
Stay tuned for next season of learning, technique, tips, fun. Please send any ideas, feedback, things you would like to see for next year to: info@jhnordic.com
For those still interested in skate skiing this Thursday, an informal small group will be skiing at Trail Creek Nordic Center – meeting at 11am at the Ski Club cabin. We respect the need for appropriate social distancing. Don’t forget to bring $15 for your trail fee.
Trail Creek grooming was in good shape today! And lots of fresh air, open spaces!

Pole, Pedal, Paddle Cancelled
The Board of Directors and the leadership staff of the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC) have canceled the 45th Annual Rendezvous River Sports Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle (PPP), scheduled for April 4, 2020 to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 “Coronavirus.” JHSC was subsequently informed that the Teton County Commissioners have denied the special event permit for the same reasons in action taken at the public meeting March 16. Stay tuned for information about how we will be celebrating the 5-year anniversary of the Karen Oatey Scholarship Endowment, and our progress with scholarships at the Club. |

Grooming Daily
Socially Isolated Skiers!
It has been a surprisingly busy morning at Trail Creek today, with lots of skiers out and about taking advantage of the winter bounty we have here in Wyoming, while still following all the guidelines about keeping oneself healthy. What a good thing!
Much progress was made in the grooming department, with the Ginzu making multiple passes of all major trails this morning. Cool temps overnight finally firmed up the snow and, while there are still some sections of trail that are a bit rough, as of 11:30 with the temp right at freezing and a mostly sunny sky, things were looking pretty good.
The snow was still a bit too firm to put in classic tracks in the woods, although the ones in the fields from yesterday are still pretty nice. If the forecast doesn’t change between now and late afternoon, tomorrow’s grooming will probably take place late this afternoon, which will hopefully allow classic tracks in the woods if things warm enough.
For the next few days watch the thermometer, remembering that conditions will go from icy to soft to slush as the day progresses.
Groomer’s choice for today is for lots of people to get out and have a socially isolated ski!

Grooming Has Ended
Spring plowing began in Grand Teton National Park on Monday, March 16. The plowing operations mark the end of over-snow access on the 14-mile section of the Teton Park Road between Taggart Lake Trailhead and the Signal Mountain area.
For safety reasons, visitors may not access the Teton Park Road once plowing operations are underway. Rotary snow removal equipment and plows may be working at any time, and the roadway will be closed to all uses at all times until further notice. Skiers and those on snow shoes using areas adjacent to the roadway are cautions to avoid the arc of snow blown from the rotary equipment because pieces of ice and gravel can be thrown great distances.

Snow conditions are NOT safe outside of the groomed trails. All traffic needs to remain on the groomed areas as the current snow coverage is very deceiving and inconsistent, increasing the likelihood of injuries.
Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club
Update: 3/9
From our Nordic track maintenance team:
With rising temperatures and winter coming to an end, adjustments will be made to the route of the groomed trail. Beginning this past weekend, the trail will only be groomed on the north side of Spring Gulch Road.
This accomplishes two important things. For one, it allows us to extend the grooming period of the season because as the roadways clear it becomes increasing difficult and unsafe for the staff to cross the roads with grooming equipment. In addition, suspending grooming operations south of Spring Gulch Road helps us minimize disturbances to the local moose population. In general, please be extra mindful not to disturb wildlife during this important period for their winter survival.

Nordic:Trails above were groomed yesterday morning and should be in decent shape. CCC Ponds grooming is done now due to March 15 wildlife restrictions in place for migrating deer – and they are migrating. If you do use those trails, please give wildlife their space and control your dogs. With these warm temperatures, probably won’t groom the golf course more unless we get a big snow. Thank you to the folks who have helped keep the trails clean and picked up after their pets – that has been a huge help. Thank you also to Andrew Zook who volunteered to groom the fat tire trails – has helped to divert bikes off the ski trails. Will groom above as weather allows.
Fat Bike 2/13: All Lower Kelly Park is groomed with a great riding base. Should be perfect conditions for the next 3-5 days due to high pressure system. For more information contact Geared Up, 307-399-5539 c.307-760-1912, www.gearedupbikes.com
