Tribute to Sean O’Malley and Nordic News

Sean O’Malley, one of the early members of Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance who also previously published the local Nordic News is retiring from Teton County at the end of January 2019. We value Sean’s sparkle and local knowledge that he put into this and wanted to commemorate his contributions over the years to the Nordic community by looking back at an all-time favorite Nordic News issue from 2005.

Trail Creek Report

Last Updated: 1/9

Blast from the Past!

Those of you who’ve skied around the track a time or two will probably recognize the graphics to the right, the work of one of the long time members of our community.  To go back to the end of the season report from 2005 you can read the entire report here.  Hopefully we can get a little more information from “Mr. O’Klister” in a future edition as he is at least partially hanging up his skis in pursuit of warmer activities.

Moving to the present, it is simply an awesome day to ski at Trail Creek.  As of noon the temperature is -7ºC/20ºF with sunny skies and calm winds.  Today’s Pisten Bully grooming totally reworked the fields with double classic tracks and about the “best of the season” conditions.  All woods trails received at least skate grooming with most of the close woods receiving a classic touch up as well.  Look for a rework of all woods classic tracks tomorrow.

Groomer’s choice for today is Grunt.

Turpin Meadow Ranch Grooming Report

Last Updated: 1/7 @ 4pm
We received at least 3-4 inches of new snow on 1/7! We have groomed throughout the day and we will groom the afternoon/evening of 1/7 once the wind dies down. Our trails in the flats (Summer Homes Loop, Riverside, and Willows Trails) could potentially be slightly wind blown after grooming but we are expecting the wind to subside in the early evening. This is a great chance to come try our trails in the hills if you haven’t yet as they are holding up great during this storm! There will be limited grooming 1/8 and 1/9 but we will be back to daily grooming on 1/10. Come out and see us!

Alta Track

Skate: Fair |  Classic: Excellent
Just finished grooming. Made many passes over the entire network. Set classic tracks and made an extra 4th pass on the skate lane. I was able to level out the drifts and it looked like skating was a huge improvement from yesterday. It will only get better from here and I would suspect after tomorrow’s grooming the skating will be great! Enjoy!!
