Feeling lucky for the snow we have

Strong work from the snow team who created this race course at Soldier Hollow!

What a nice refresh of a few inches of fluffy white snow. Catching up with our partners who run the Pinedale STAmpede (photo gallery of the fun below) I also got this photo of last weekend’s Intermountain Division Junior National Qualifier at Soldier Hollow. It is indeed less snowy here than usual, but wow! Great work with the snowmakers on the SoHo race course in Midway, Utah.

Community Report: Ice Art, Teton Tracks, and Cozy Coffee!

New West Knifeworks team sculpture.

We explored spectacular track skiing on both sides of the Grand Tetons this week – and encourage you to do the same!

Our adventure to Teton Canyon started with a route new to all of us! We began at the Teton Canyon parking lot but immediately headed south across a lovely bridge and followed the not-groomed ski/boot/fat tire bike tracks for around two miles of trail that paralleled the main canyon road. Once back at the groomed track, we joined many others for a joyous ski out and back.

But our adventure was far from over. We stopped in Driggs for their annual (best ever in our opinion) ice carving competition where we oohed and awed at the creativity—especially of the student artists. And then on to Wydaho Roasters Coffee House for delicious hot chocolate and croissants. A perfect end to a perfect day.

Editor’s Note: The Driggs Downtown Association bought a snow maker this year in order to keep the Snowscapes tradition going! The sculptures are usually the third week in January.

Pinedale STAmpede Recap

The race grew from 100 racers the last few years to 124 this year, a nice boost as the Sublette Trails Association works to make this race a mainstay regional race. Congratulations to all the organizers and racers!

As you can see from the photo gallery, there are opportunities for everyone to participate whether it be a costume party lap or hanging out at the post race party to listen to live music, eat and drink, and participate in a raffle.

Next year there will be a Sunday loppett where anyone can go back up and ski with everyone and just have fun.

Shenanigans and serious efforts at the Pinedale STAmpede.

This premier Nordic race includes distances for all ages and ability levels, with a 20K, 10K, 5K, 2.5k and a free 1K. This is a skate, or freestyle, Nordic skiing event. There is no specific classic division and no classic tracks.

Or join us for a 1k Relay (1/2k lap with two people). Costumes encouraged!

Volunteer Feb 7/8

As so many of you know, volunteers make the world go round.

Due to lack of snow, the Jackson Hole Ski Club is hosting a couple extra races this year to support regional Nordic.

It’s pretty fun and the effort the kids and coaches put in is really inspiring to be around.

Find a day and job that work for you here!
