Spreading Happiness
Endorphins, those delightful little chemicals our brains whip up during exercise, laughter, or even a bite of chocolate, are like tiny cheerleaders for kindness. When they flood your system, they not only boost your mood but also make you feel more connected to others. It’s as if your brain whispers, “Hey, life’s pretty great—why not share the love?” This surge of happiness can spark acts of generosity, from offering a helping hand to simply sharing a warm smile. In a way, endorphins turn us into joy-fueled kindness machines, proving that happiness really is contagious
While Cynthia H. was out skiing at Trail Creek she discovered a man shoveling out steps in the snowbank to make the approach to the trail head easier. By the looks of it he had been out for a ski too and perhaps had a few endorphins coursing through his body. May it be an inspiration to us all to spread kindness and good cheer while we are out enjoying winter trails!
Tech Tip: Waxless Skis Sometimes Need Wax
The following tip comes from expert Cody Downard, Teton Pines Nordic Center. This helpful tip was originally posted in JH News & Guide’s Nordic Notes, read the full article here.
When fish scales were invented back in the 1970s, people called them “waxless,” but that is something of a misnomer. While they were called waxless because you do not need grip wax on the base, people often think they don’t need glide wax, either.
Over time, the P-tex (the material on the bottom of the ski) can dry out, causing it to lose its wax protection and become porous. You might recognize this when your skis get white and fuzzy. This means there are gaps in the skis, which can easily be penetrated by water as you ski.
This water penetration can cause some quick problems. As it freezes it binds to passing snow, and you will find yourself trying to ski with a snowball on each foot — not a great experience. To fix this, apply a proper coat of wax using a heat gun or iron. This will keep the water out and give you a much better ski.
