Grand Targhee Nordic & Fat Bike Trails
Teton Valley
Fee: $25.00
Access:
Starting from Jackson, head west on Hwy 22 over Teton Pass to Victor, ID. Drive north on ID Hwy 33 to Driggs. Turn right at Ski Hill Rd and continue for approximately 10 miles to the Grand Targhee Resort parking lot.
Description:
Grand Targhee’s Nordic trails offer three loops: The Hamster Loop (near the resort base), Snowdrift, and Rick’s Basin (Quakie Ridge is not open for the 24/25 season). The base of Grand Targhee sits at 7,850 feet so skiing here might feel like a little extra work, because it is! And the views, meadows and forests are worth it. Not to mention the snow! These loops are groomed for both classic and skate skiing, conditions dependent (eg there is not always a classic track set). The trails feature rolling hills, with some extended climbs and provide plenty of variety and exercise.
24-25 Fees: $25.00 for Adults; $20.00 for Seniors (65+); $10.00 for Juniors (6-12); Adult Nordic season pass: $200. Dogs need a daily $5 pass or $50 season pass.
Skiing Experience: The Grand Targhee Nordic trails offer classic and skate skiing. The groomed trails traverse through wooded glades, aspen groves and scenic meadows.
Winter Grooming: Grooming of the trails is conducted on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, unless excessive snowfall hinders the process. Trail reports are available at GrandTarghee.com.
Fat Bikers: Fat bikers share the trails with skiers and snowshoers (fat bikers yield). Please adhere to specific tire size requirements and pay attention to your track - you may need less tire pressure in dofter conditions to help maintain good track conditions.
Snowshoers: Snowshoers share the trails with fat bikers and snowshoers (fat bikers yield). There is a new fleet of rentals available from Grand Targhee.
Summer Hikers: These trails are walkable in the summer, but we recommend the Bannock trail up to the summit as it is a walkers only trail. The Nordic trails are part of the popular cross-country mountain bike trails in the summer.
Dog Owners: Please purchase your dog a day or season pass and as on any groomed track, pick up and pack out their waste.
Directions:
Beginnings: Nordic skiers usually prefer to park in the lower lot so you can ski right to your car at the end of your ski. You will need to walk up to the plaza to purchase your pass. Lessons and rentals are also available, From the Base area, head down the hill next to the Huckleberry Conveyor (magic carpet) to the junction behind the Shoshone lift. Take the Nordic Connector trail (heading north) to access the main part of the Nordic trail system or head left to start on the Hamster Loop.
Trail Options: The option to ski the loops in either direction adds variety. Snowdrift and Rick’s Basin Loops are rated intermediate and the Hamster Loop is the most beginner friendly.
