Daily Trail Report for 1.16.26.

While indeed much of the lowlands in Jackson and Teton Valley are completely brown, or white with lots of brown and sage green showing through, there is great cross-country skiing on groomed tracks and up just a little in elevation.

The high pressure we are under right now makes for some great skiing. It also is a window of stable driving conditions if you are tempted to plan a winter adventure a little further from home.

At a Glance

  • Blue sky weekend ahead.
  • Check the grooming page daily.
  • Great gear on sale at Teton Pines.

General Weather – continued high pressure

Mountain Weather is showing a lot of blue ahead. We noticed a significant inversion heading up to ski at Grand Targhee today. If the valleys seem cold, either wait a little or go up a little.

With warm/dry weather forecasted for the foreseeable future grooming schedules may adjust to help conserve snow. Trust the folks working the snow, they are going to do their best to keep xc ski conditions in top condition.

If super firm snow is not your preferred surface, the days are warming up enough you might choose a late morning or early afternoon ski instead.

Check the grooming page – while we are getting closer to regular grooming, we are not there yet. We do our best to bring you the full story every morning, and the most current trail conditions can be viewed online at: www.jhnordic.com/grooming/

Teton Pines is fully open and the skate skiing is awesome! Photo Thursday, 1.14.

Teton Pines is skiing well even in low snow conditions

Many of you know Cody Downard, co-owner of Teton Pines Nordic Center. And for those who don’t know him yet, he loves to ski! He and I shared some early season laps up on Snowdrift at Grand Targhee, before there was much snow anywhere, and I am confident he is a credible source. When he shares that “skiing is awesome at the Pines right now,” I believe him!

And if fast fun tracks are not enough to entice you to Teton Pines for a ski, Cody has lots of closeout skis and boots at 50% off! They are selling their demo / rental gear: skate, classic, and metal-edged backcountry touring. Most sizes are still available. Beware: it could be hard to pass up some of the new fun retail gear when you are in looking for great used rental and demo skis.

Lots of great skis, boots and poles at 50% off at Teton Pines.

A shout out in the NYT

Two years ago, JH Nordic Alliance founder Nancy Leon went for a ski with Cindy Hirschfield. They had a great day!

And this week Cindy shared some of what is so great about our corner of cross-country skiing with New York Time’s readers across the country.
