Groomer Updates
Shooting Star – Closed

Thursday pooling at Shooting Star.
NORDIC TRAIL CLOSURE: Trails will continue to remain closed for the foreseeable future due to diminished conditions caused by warm weather and recent heavy rainfall. Runoff from rains and rapid snow melt have left the track profile soaked with unfrozen water and ponding is frequent throughout the course. Unfortunately, grooming equipment can no longer operate properly due to the wetness of the track profile and receding snow depths.
Temperatures are forecasted to remain significantly above average through all next week with additional rainfall. All grooming operations are to be halted until more snow and colder temperatures return of which can thoroughly refreeze ponding & stabilize the snowpack. At this time, I expect trails to remain closed through at least all next week.
Alta Nordic – Skier Report
Thursday 1 pm: Get it while you can. Trails are melting fast but the skiing is also fast! Getting soft midday. Mornings may be icy. Some rerouting has been done to preserve loops.

It’s Friday, Where will you ski?

TPR, Grand Teton National Park
Woooooooooo hoooooooooooooos!
Being on skate skis is THE BEST place in the world! Great groomer, stunning views, plentiful hellos to fellow skiers and a sweet adrenaline rush to fill the soul! (VB)
Editor’s note: TPR is the Teton Park Road, groomed Tuesday, Friday, Sunday by Bushong. Grooming is funded through donations to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. Conditions are brought to you by the Nordic Alliance through Nordic Pulse.

Mike Harris, Victor…
The groomer’s note said it would be great, and it was.
However, energy was a little low for the effort needed on the climbs. I decided to play with technique (keeping chest and head up, sitting down to help my skis do the work of skating up hill) to achieve max glide for minimal effort.
Bonus: no matter how you feel about your ski, the Southern Valley Gnome is going to say “Nice Job!” when you crest the steep section almost to the top. (AW)

Telemark, Cable, WI!
After spending the week traveling by car from Victor, ID, I skied with my husband to check out the trails before racing our first American Birkibieners. The trails were in beautiful shape with some new snow on top of ice from their last rain cycle. Skiing in the woods was magical and we got to see tidbits of where we would race.
The energy at Telemark was high. Skiers from all over the country and world were stoked to have good conditions this year. It was hard to ski only a short bit pre-race… amazing trails!
I highly recommend visiting Cable, WI, to ski, race the Birkie, or be a spectator at one of their incredible events. (SW)
Go have fun on your skis, snowshoes, fat bike or feet!
