Teton Canyon for the Ski!

Teton Canyon was full of skiers, snowshoers, walkers, happy dogs, parents with kids in sleds, new skiers, fast skiers, overnight skiers from the yurt, and good cheer on New Year’s Day.

The classic track is firm enough to be holding up well. Everything is well covered and Mark has been adding some extra grooming in – Thanks Mark and TVTAP!!!

Running into friends is one of the great things about Teton Canyon.

How do I know if my trail is above 6700 feet?

Good question! While the trail database does not currently have a filter for elevation, you can click through to individual trails and identify the starting elevation. Every trail includes an elevation profile, with elevations listed along the left axis.

The profile below (and picture above) is for Hermitage Point in Grand Teton National Park. We cannot guarantee snow at any elevation, but trip reports and word on the street indicates that somewhere between 6500 and 7000 there is consistently enough snow for touring.

You can also check the 5-day temperature forecast at Mountain Weather to see if nights are below freezing, and just how warm the valley floor is predicted to be. Combining the elevation profiles and temperature forecast hopefully helps as you expand your skiing, or just want to check if conditions are good at your current favorite spots.
