Many make their way out to the Tetons drawn by the long epic winter conditions for the legendary powder skiing. However, often missed for some is how gorgeous the summers are here.

Winter Enthusiasts Love Summer Trails in the Tetons

The nights are cool and the days are hot (especially this year – 2022). The aspen groves bloom bringing much needed shade, wildflowers are unbelievable and radiant in color, the wildlife emerges out of hibernation, and the newness brings a hurried excitement. The snow finally melts off around May and enthusiasts are drawn to the summer months in the Tetons. The sun hats and caps replace the beanie hats, and the trail runners and open-toe sandals emerge, replacing the ski boots and Sorels. The event calendar is full of concerts, family-friendly things to do, tourists brim the town, with more sun to lengthen the fun, AND more importantly Jackson Hole trail options are bountiful!

Summer Trail Adventures in Wyoming

Winter enthusiasts love summer trails in the Tetons often with a list of them they want to tick off before the next snow falls. The trails all vary in elevation, scenic views, and difficulty. On our Trail Search page, we have a “Trail Running” filter so you can navigate the Nordic trails in the summertime. You can also use “Dog-friendly” filter if you’d like to bring your 4-legged-companion along with you.

The best things to pack with you and things to keep in mind when you are hitting the trails:

  1. Trip plan and tell a friend where you’re headed (Use JHNordic.com/trails to find your trail)
  2. Drinking water (be sure to pack more if you choose a lengthener hike OR need to share your water with your dog)
  3. Pack snacks (leave no trace and pack out your trash)
  4. Hat and/or sunglasses
  5. Sunscreen – The sun is hot at 6k+ elevation
  6. Bear spray (bears are awake and active in the summertime)
  1. Mosquito repellent with DEET (West Nile Virus has been detected locally)
  2. Avoid playing music over a speaker – it’s important to be aware of your surroundings
  3. Light jacket/long sleeve
  4. Poopy bags (if the dog is coming along, pick up after your pet)
  5. Give wildlife space! – Many of the visitors make that mistake every year and we all want to go home safe and sound even these creatures.

The summers are precious (fleeting) in the Tetons, and with that carpe diem (seize the day)!

Happy Trails!
