Nordic Recreational  Master clinic: Jan 17th Skate Next

The Nordic Masters Rec Program worked on classic Nordic ski fundamentals on Jan 3rd, including longer glide, diagonal stride, climbing short hills, strengthening the kick, keeping the head and vision high. Coaches Scott Horn and Cody Downard provided tips to refine everyone’s technique, with group exercises and personal attention.
Next clinic will focus on Skate technique -Join us on Thursday, January 17th at 11am-12:30pm at Teton PInes Nordic Center.  Come a few minutes early to sign in upstairs in the Nordic Center shop. If it will be your first clinic, bring payment (cash or check). Please RSVP to so we may plan for the right number of coaches.
Feel free to stay after to skate around the well-groomed trails at Teton Pines Nordic. The class is open to all (except first-time beginners).

Trail Creek Report
They’re Calling!

January 3rd, 2019 @ 11am

In the car box, in the garage, in the closet, wherever they, are your skis are calling your name to head on out for a great Nordic ski, and while some Siren Songs will only lead you to disaster, the calling of your skis will bring health and good cheer.  Heed the call, make the short trip to Trail Creek, and have a great Nordic outing today!

If you do make the journey, what you will discover is that all trails have received at least Pisten Bully best line skate grooming and about half of the classic tracks have also been touched up in the fields.  Classic tracks that were not groomed are still in quite nice shape.  As of 11:15 AM the sky was mostly sunny, the wind calm, and the temperature climbing rapidly through -14ºC/7ºF on its way to the 20’s for one of the warmer days in a while, and surely a great day to call for a Nordic ski!

Groomer’s choice for today is Armin’s.

Status of USFS Winter Operations

A note from the Forest Service: As you know, the Forest Service is included in the Government Shutdown. Therefore, the majority of our folks are furloughed and the offices are closed. However, we will be able to provide limited services with a focus on public safety. This includes:

  • The BT Avalanche Center will continue to issue forecasts
  • Plowing will continue at Granite, Gros Ventre, Mosquito Creek and Cache Creek (but may not be as frequent)
  • Snow ranger patrols will continue on a limited basis (this includes Cache and Game and our snowmobile patrols)
  • Jay will continue to cover Teton Pass
  • The ambassadors will continue covering Cache and Game (since they are not technically FS volunteers)

Thank you for your support of our winter program and your patience. Hopefully, we will return to full operations soon.

Take some time to read “Nature News,” a blog by the lovely Cathy Shill. On it, you will find monthly nature insights from Jackson Hole!

Pinedale Nordic Trail Report
Last Updated: 12/28 @ 9am

Half Moon Tie-In, Kelly Park, Kelly Tie-In, Upper & Lower Surveyor, Tree Loop, Moose Ridge, Flatline, and Old Road Trail have all been groomed this morning. Waiting for more snow to do Heart Attack. About 1/2″ of new snow overnight. 7F degrees at the Nordic Equipment Building. Road plowed, a lot of skier traffic – drive with care, always. Watch out for kids and dogs in the White Pine parking lot, especially at road crossings. There are Nordic skiers parking at the lower end, and alpine skiers near the lodge. Drivers, please slow down going to/from/through the White Pine parking lot – a dog got hit yesterday by a truck driving too fast (the dog is ok). There are moose on Moose Ridge – give wildlife their space. The CCC and Golf Course trails were groomed yesterday and should be fair skiing, with a heavy dusting of snow on them. Parking areas are plowed. Golf Course Club House is open for meals and restroom. Lakeside Lodge is also open for meals and lodging. See links below for links to their websites for more info on days and times for open hours and services through the winter.
