Winter Services Update/Pathway Plowing-February 11, 2019

Jackson/Teton County Parks and Recreation has implemented some changes to our winter service levels.  Due to the increased snow levels in recent weeks and the lack of snow storage space, Highway 22 pathway from Skyline Ranch north to Emily’s Pond will no longer be cleared.  Additionally, South Park Loop Rd pathway from Grand Teton Circle south/east to Highway 89 will also be abandoned.  Once conditions improve and temperatures warm, we will begin to clear these sections for spring access.  If changes occur prior to spring melt, we will update the community on changes.  Continue to check the Parks and Recreation website for updates on service changes, grooming and ice rink maintenance:http://www.tetonparksandrec.org/.  Thank you for your understanding.

Trail Creek Report

Last Updated: 2/11

A Sea of White!

It just keeps on coming with no signs of letting up; things are reaching epic proportions here at Trail Creek as of late.  Since last night’s grooming about 5 inches of snow have fallen with about another 2 feet forecast before Saturday’s Moose Chase.  However, Nordic conditions for Saturday should be quite favorable as snow fall is forecast to drop off in time to hopefully be able to provide some firm and fast conditions and temperatures are supposed to be in the very Nordic friendly mid 20 range for start time.

As of 1:15 PM today at Trail creek the temperature is -8ºC/18ºF with light snow fall and calm winds. Today’s grooming was double Pisten Bully passes of the Moose Chase Course with fresh classic tracks. With snowfall continuing through the week look for this grooming format to continue with the classic track being moved back and forth each day for the rest of the week.

Do be sure to give the moose and elk a little room on the trails as they are having a tough time getting through the snow lately.  Moose calves are having to leap to move around off trail.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Chasing (not literally) through the fields.

Shooting Star Grooming Report
Last Updated: 2/9

The moose are out and taking advantage of the amazing Nordic conditions. Be on the lookout for these fuzzy guys as they seek refuge from the deep snow. The course received extensive blade work over the last few days to assist w/leveling the track. Expect softer skiing to remain as plenty of the white stuff is expected to accumulate through all next week. Enjoy!

Next Update: Wednesday
Note: Track in excellent condition, thanks to Friday intensive grooming.

Mondays are all about fresh starts. The hill hit reset, and you can too because untracked
powder awaits you! 8″ overnight, with a 6% water to snow density means you may very well be having face shots for breakfast.
Grab some coffee of course but skip the grub and get on up here. Ullr has you covered.
There’s more snow on the way. Temperatures will remain low today, peaking around 11 degrees. Winds will be blowing SW from 13-21 mph, and there is a solid 100% chance of snow. 3-7″ is expected to accumulate over the course of the day.

Cross Country/Fat Bike 15k: XC OPEN (Last groomed AM 2/10/2019), Fat Bike CLOSED.

Quite the battle out there this morning. I set the classic track, but there’s a good bit of drifting snow and many sections filled in before I finished my second lap. I was unable to finish setting the skate lane due to mechanical issues. If you do head out there, be ready for an adventure.
