April is when we get to ski on crust and then ride bikes.
Maybe not everyone gets excited about riding a bike when there are giant snowbanks on either side of you… but if YOU do, the Park road is being plowed and will be officially open for bike traffic soon.
While the south end is currently open per the GTNP road updates page, the road through to Signal Mountain is anticipated to be open all the way for bike traffic this Friday.
Start with a crust cruise on skate or classic skis then change your shoes, have a big snack and go for a ride. Once plowed, the Park road remains closed to motor vehicles for the remainder of April so it is great for family rides and anyone who wants to ride the road without cars.
General Weather – Chance of Snow
Mountain Weather is forecasting continued flurries and showers, but not much accumulation in the valleys. Still good freezes to harden up the crusts overnight, but expect variable conditions. Find detailed daily forecast at mountainweather.com.

Grooming Updates
Shooting Star
The final week for Nordic skiing is here. Trail coverage is still strong, and we hope to keep all trails open through our last day this Sunday, April 6th. Weather looks good with colder weather and off/on snow showers through Thursday. Enjoy! Next update will be Friday, April 4th.
- Spring Profile. Icier during the AM and Softer in the PM.
- Sled Hill will no longer be groomed for the season due to diminishing snow.
- Walking, running, biking, snowshoeing are not allowed
- Conditions pending, daily grooming will occur through Sunday, April 6th.
Trail Creek Nordic
International Spring Series skiers race Tuesday and finish on Wednesday. The fields will be groomed again for each of the two final days of racing. The woods have received their final grooming although skiing should remain possible for some time on the National Forest.
Groomer’s choice for today is a lovely ski through the snowy woods to see if you can hear a drumming grouse.
Teton Canyon
A bit of new snow and favorable temperature should allow a good reset of skate track and hopefully classic as well. Snowed steadily Monday morning so postponed grooming a bit. Tuesday should be great!
A Thank You to Groomers…

…and everyone who helps make Nordic great!
“!!MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!! What more can we say about how great XC has become over all the years?!!!! As old ski instructors and backcountry XC adventurers we are so impressed with how one of our favorite sports has grown here in Mountain Paradise. Too old to “kick butt” anymore but still love one of our favorite sports and workouts!!!!
Again, THANKS!!!!! to all you guys who have made XC so exceptional here in our beloved JH. Hope everyone can get out in the meadows and on the lakes while the crust skating is soooooo fun and give all the great groomers a break!!!
THANKS you guys!”
