Daily Trail Report for 1.21.26.

I am grateful that there are places to ski right next to irrigation that is still active! I am grateful that Teton Valley Trails and Pathways not only puts in hundreds of hours on the grooming, they also have shepherded strong relationships with this neighborhood to support public access on these private parcels. I am grateful for the generosity of all of the landowners in the neighborhood! I am grateful for the people who picked up their dog’s poop, helping to keep the track clean so dogs are still welcome, which gives me the joy of seeing happy dogs running. And I am grateful for the best little library right next to the track so I get to ski then browse books, catch up with the library staff, be tempted by the next arts and crafts project and refill my water.

Looking east on the Alta Nordic Track, Saturday 1.17.26

On Saturday when I skied at Alta I was particularly excited (and grateful!) to see who was skiing. Some of the Grand Targhee Ski and Snowboard Nordic teams were practicing with great enthusiasm. Many of those parents were out skiing in social groups. Some of those parents were skiing with little siblings, the kind who narrate with great seriousness about their ability to get back up all by self. A medium sized sibling was striking out on his own because the visibility of much of the track means a small person can forge their own path at their own pace yet still be seen by a parent. And I got to say hello to very happy group of women who were just finishing up an intro XC afternoon with Jan and Celeste of Teton Nordic Ski School, a program put on in partnership with SheJumps.

A great day of people being outside, connecting to each other and this place. So lucky.

Come race in the Teton Ridge Classic!

Saturday, January 31

Classic skiing at it’s finest!

For the last 2 decades the Teton Ridge Classic (TRC) has been one of the premier classic events in the region. Last year it moved to a new venue that is perfect for classic skiing. The start and finish are on a private ranch where we can all gather post-race to swap stories, refuel, and hand out awards.

For 2026 we have a kids 1/2km and 2km. There are also 8km, 14km, and 28km distances. Course maps
