Full Moon over Wilson and the Tetons, from Silson Loops.

Have you known the Great White Silence,

not a snow-gemmed twig aquiver?

(Eternal truths that shame our soothing lies.)

Have you broken trail on snowshoes? mushed your huskies up the river,

Dared the unknown, led the way, and clutched the prize?

Excerpt from Call of the Wild, Robert Service

With the next full moon less than a week away, now is the time to plan something a little wild. Wide open meadows are a great choice for the blue views of a full moon on snow. Many of our forest trails are also wide enough to make for an excellent moonlit tour.

At a Glance

  • Storm weather Tuesday & Wednesday possible
  • Next full moon March 3, make a plan to ski

General Weather – snow expected

Groomer Updates

Trail Creek Nordic

It is a wildly varied and busy week ahead for JHSC Nordic and Trail Creek. After wrapping up a weekend of racing where some of our fastest earned tickets to Junior Nationals in Cable, WI, it just keeps on coming, starting with a JHSC members welcome home celebration for JHSC Alumni and Olympian Anna Gibson.

The Lollipoppers and Teewinots will be on their usual, but busy schedule. Masters are wrapping up their season with the final session of the year at Trail Creek. The Juniors are off again next weekend to the IMD Youth Fest in Sun Valley, Idaho. Many Prep/Comp skiers will compete in the Wyoming High School Nordic Championship in Pinedale next Friday and Saturday, and everyone will be welcome to ski at the Spudathlon at the Alta ski track on Saturday.

If your skis grow moss this week, it’s not because of lack of opportunities!

Shooting Star Nordic

Expect storm skiing this Tuesday & Wednesday with high winds, snow, and rain depending on how warm temperatures become. Hopefully, most of the moisture falls in the form of snow as outlook is calling for continued above average temperatures. We’ll continue to do our best to work around the weather but need some assistance from Mother Nature to keep trails skiable through March. Stay up with the forecast throughout this next storm.

• Walking, snowshoeing, biking are NOT allowed

• Sled Hill Open

• Grooming frequencies will vary to preserve snow coverage

• Early season conditions persist (bare, icy, rough, inconsistent surfaces/firmness)
