General Weather – more dry weather
Not much new to say here. Stying focused on what this dry series of days allows—longer skis? excellent fat biking conditions? time to wax your skis? may help get us through in good spirits. See the full forecast at Mountain Weather.

What’s Groomed Today?
Planned Thursday Grooming
Daily grooming
All four of these Nordic Centers so far are maintaining enough snow for consistent grooming and terrific track skiing. 🙂
Check the grooming page – see what else gets groomed Thursday
Grooming in both valleys is once again a balance of preserving snow, preserving the earth underneath and keeping the tracks in great shape for skiers. Some tracks are getting extra grooms and some are again on hold until there is more snow. Hooray for the groomers for working such magic!
We do our best to bring you the full story every morning, and the most current trail conditions can always be viewed online at: www.jhnordic.com/grooming/

Groomer Updates
Shooting Star Nordic
Trails continue to ski well considering the low snow coverage. Look for continued stable conditions through Friday, with some possible light snow. See the below ongoing trail notes. Next update will be Friday, January 30th. Enjoy!
Trail Notes
- All trails will be open and groomed except for the Ranch Section
- Sled hill remains closed until more snow accumulates
- No classic tracks set due to thin coverage
- Grooming frequencies will vary to preserve snow coverage
- Early season conditions persist (bare, rough, inconsistent surfaces/firmness)
- Walking, snowshoeing, biking are NOT allowed
Teton Reserve Nordic – TVTAP
We need more snow before we can effectively groom again.
Trail Creek Nordic
Skiing all in all is quite lovely.
Groomer’s choice is to check out Homesite.
A reminder that the Close Field will be busy with high school racing Friday and Saturday and closed to public skiing.

Flashback to the 2019 TRC, also held at Grand Targhee.
Making friends with a hilly high-elevation course
Due to low snow, the Teton Ridge Classic is headed up to Grand Targhee Nordic. While those of us who love a lap around Quakie Ridge are delighted it will be groomed, there may be a few racers who groaned (but with a smile) about the additional challenges of skiing hard at 7,800-8,200 feet.
Experts to the rescue! Not only has Erich Wilbrecht raced the TRC in year’s past when it was held at Grand Targhee, he’s raced all over the world! JH Nordic Alliance tracked him down for a few tips on how to approach this course.
In a nutshell, he covers altitude, uphills, kick, pace, hydration and perspective.
