Cache Creek Update

Just a heads up..we were unable to get the dump truck and Pisten Bully up Cache this morning. It didn’t set up last night with the warmer temps and Brian almost got stuck and had to back out. It’s too far to road the PB on pavement down low for us. He said there will likely be some folks getting stuck today unless it can get scraped or given some attention.

JHSC Club and Community Nordic Update

Coaches Ben and Scott with the “Alaska Delegation”

The Junior National Championships took place from March 11th to 16th in Anchorage, Alaska and Jackson had 7 athletes competing! All athletes were extremely impressed by national-level racing and enjoyed racing in the world class venue of Kincaid Park. Racing at sea level, traveling by plane to a race, lining up with athletes from thousands of miles away and racing for the Intermountain Division were great new experiences for all. Notable results include a 9th place finish from David King in the 5k classic, mass start. Elijah Weenig, David King and Sam Johnson all qualified to move onto the sprint heats in the Skate Sprint race. Elijah placed 12th (a mere 3 seconds out of top ten) in the 5k skate, interval start.

Trail Creek Report

Last Updated: 3/22

Lose Yourself on a Trail!

You still have plenty of daylight left today to hop on your skis and get lost somewhere on a great Nordic ski. You’ll find plenty of nice skiing if Trail Creek is the location where you will eventually find yourself.

Today’s grooming was double Pisten Bully passes of the perimeter of the fields and most major woods trails. It was actually quite busy this mid-day with lots of smiling skiers. Fresh classic tracks were dropped in everywhere as while with about 80% coming out quite nice with a few issues here and there. As of report time at 1:45 PM the temperature was 4ºC/40ºF with no wind and a little precip and a little sun.

The fields are currently quite skiable but softening a bit while the more poop free sections of the woods trails should ski pretty nicely all day. The trails should freeze overnight with a slightly wetter repeat of today tomorrow. The woods will probably be nice all day tomorrow with the field’s primo time being late morning to early afternoon. Look for the next grooming Saturday evening.

Groomer’s choice for today is to get lost on a long ski.

9:55am: Game Creek is groomed and should ski really nicely today. Classic track will be shallow but still usable. I will be starting Three Creek Pathway shortly and should be done around 11:30am.
Cache Creek Road is really rough shape as mentioned previously. We would recommend only 4 wheel drive trying it today. Forest Service has been notified of the conditions.

6:25am: Wayne May Park is groomed. The skate lane is in good shape, the classic tracks are shallow. I cannot make it up the Cache Creek road hill and I have no other place to park when the town road is down to pavement. CACHE CREEK WILL NOT BE GROOMED TODAY.

Plowing has begun at both the north and south ends of the Park road, meeting in the middle. The Park’s intention was to start today, and we believe that they did.

Please do not ski on the road that has not yet been plowed, as this trail is closed for the season

We will keep everyone informed when the road re-opens to bikes, walkers, and other modes of human-powered transport.

Pinedale Nordic Trail Report
Last Updated: 3/21 @ 9am

Most trails above groomed last night. Expect firm conditions this morning, softening conditions as the day goes on. The best skiing likely between 10AM to 1PM today. It will certainly be soft as the afternoon goes on. Predicted for temperatures to be above 50F degrees up above today. Because of the warm afternoon temperatures, do not recommend trail use after 2PM. If we stay off the trails in the afternoon, it will help preserve them for the next day.

Alta Track

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
Last Updated: 3/21 @ 7am
Skate: Excellent  |  Classic: Good

Moonlit grooming session last night ended at 2am. Ginzued 2-3 passes on skate lanes. Could not improve the classic track (as the snow was too cold to reset). Left it alone. Just checked the surface of the track (8am) and it seems to have set up nicely. It should be great skate skiing and okay classic skiing today (until it hits 50 degrees)!

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Teton Canyon

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Last Updated: 3/20 @ 10am
Skate: Good | Classic: Good

I ginzued the skate lane this morning. It’s so firm out there, it should be good. I left the classic lane because it was so solid, I could not improve it. Enjoy this beautiful day.

Teton Springs

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday
Last Updated: 3/21 @ 11am
Skate: Good |  Classic: Fair

Just got one pass finished before the sled pooped out, but was able to set classic (the classic tracks are pretty but soooooft. If the tracks can set up overnight, they should be good for the morning). The course is getting narrower as the sides soften up and the golf course is starting to plow/auger right up against the groomed trail, so be careful!

Yeti’s Loop

Grooming Schedule: As Needed
Last Updated: 3/13 @ 2am
Skate: Excellent  |  Classic: Excellent

Just finished grooming the Yeti. It always takes longer than anticipated…so much hair. Anyways, classic track is set for counter-clockwise skiing and the skate lane should be amazing. The trail is rather narrow so pay attention and stay in control.
Don’t forget about the orange donate button.

Enjoy!
