Trail Creek Report

Last Updated: 3/19

Splendiferous Spring Day!

Even though the calendar says it’s not quite spring, it sure feels like it today at Trail Creek.  The brilliant sunshine is rapidly warming the temperature as it is passing through freezing at noon. There is also no wind to slow you down on your great Nordic ski today.

Today’s grooming was double passes with the Pisten Bully around the perimeter of the field trails and through all major woods trails.  On the negative side the classic track setter had a tough time penetrating the hard snow early on and some of the close woods trails have more than ample poop to contend with but positively speaking most skate lanes as of report time are skiing really nicely.

We are now entering that time of year when conditions can go from scary icy to incredibly awesome to a slushy slogfest all in the course of a day.  Be sure to pick your time correctly and you’ll find plenty of great skiing yet this year.

Next tentative grooming will be Wednesday afternoon in order to put in some sharp classic tracks with approximately every other day grooming until March 30th.

A quick update on the Snowy Cabin; see the pictures below, the really fascinating thing about this winter is the overhangs that have developed as the snow has mushroomed out almost three feet beyond the edge of the roof, kind of amazing!

Groomer’s choice for today is to time your ski correctly.

8:35am: the school fields and the levee are groomed. The classic tracks are very shallow but the skate lanes should be firm and fast. I am starting Stilson now and should be done around 10:30.

Grand Teton National Park Grooming Report

Plowing has begun at both the north and south ends of the Park road, meeting in the middle. The Park’s intention was to start today, and we believe that they did.

Please do not ski on the road that has not yet been plowed, as this trail is closed for the season

We will keep everyone informed when the road re-opens to bikes, walkers, and other modes of human-powered transport.

The skate skiing is just absolutely unbelievable. Classics cross-country tracks are firm and fast. Skate skiing is in the best condition of the sea on. So if you’re interested in skate skiing come on over, track is firm, smooth, and unbeatable right now.

Alta Track

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
Last Updated: 3/18 @ 10pm
Skate: Good  |  Classic: Fair

We ginzued the skate lanes as the track was setting up this evening. 99% is good but we left just a few funky spots where the snow was still a little too soft and the ginzu bogged down briefly. Easy to ski around though. Did not reset the classic track. Most is still ok.

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 3/15 @ 3pm
Skate: Good  |  Classic: Good

Sherman Park

Reset the skate track, left the classic alone as it is in solid condition. Once it sets up overnight, should be great by the morning. Enjoy!

Teton Springs

Reset the skate lane. Did a couple of test runs of resetting Classic… no go. The tracks are a little beat up, but should still be quite good.

Yeti’s Loop

Grooming Schedule: As Needed
Last Updated: 3/13 @ 2am
Skate: Excellent  |  Classic: Excellent

Just finished grooming the Yeti. It always takes longer than anticipated…so much hair. Anyways, classic track is set for counter-clockwise skiing and the skate lane should be amazing. The trail is rather narrow so pay attention and stay in control.
Don’t forget about the orange donate button.

Enjoy!
