Tribute to Sean O’Malley and Nordic News

Sean O’Malley, one of the early members of Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance who also previously published the local Nordic News is retiring from Teton County at the end of January 2019. We value Sean’s sparkle and local knowledge that he put into this and wanted to commemorate his contributions over the years to the Nordic community by looking back at an all-time favorite Nordic News issue from 2005.

Trail Creek Report

Last Updated: 1/12

We’re in the Movies!

As we are in the busiest time of the year the JHSC Nordic Program is working on a video project with the working title of the “Busiest Day” to showcase all the happenings at Trail Creek.  While normally such production is prohibitively expensive, JHSC Nordic team member Sam Roubin (pictured above) who is currently a senior in high school with interests in video production is spearheading the technical parts of the production.  Hopefully sometime in the weeks to come we will have an awesome video showing what happens on a busy day at Trail Creek.

Except for some video productions this morning, it has been a bit quiet for a Saturday today at Trail Creek, no doubt because many of our regulars are over the hill racing today.  If you have time to come out you should find some great skiing.  As of 10:30 AM there was kind of an inversion fog blocking the sun and this fog was resulting in a continuous falling of nearly immeasurable inversion fog snow.  The winds were calm and the temperature was -11ºC/12ºF.

Today’s grooming was a bit limited due to video productions but did manage a Pisten Bully visit of almost all trails with either a skate only or a skate/classic pass being put in depending on greatest need.  This morning an unusual multispecies gathering was witnessed on Outward Bound where a moose was hanging with a group of elk.  They were even kind enough to provide a reasonable photo op pictured below (click for a larger image).

Groomer’s choice for today is “groomed free of moose and elk tracks as of 8 AM” Outward Bound.
