A Classic skiing drill to try – from the Peak Performance Team
No Poles Skiing! Ski for ½ an hour with no poles. There is nothing quite like it for training the fine motor balancing movements in your legs. What do you get for your effort? Much more efficient skiing, due to better balance, longer glide and a reduction of extraneous functional tension in the lower leg and core.
Groomer Updates
TVTAP
On Friday Horseshoe was groomed for skate and classic on the approach to the yurt and lower out and back, the upper loop was groomed for skate. Very good results from the grooming at Southern Valley Nordic on Friday.
Shooting Star
Trails are in good shape following aggressive grooming the past several days to harvest what snow we can onto thin locations. While potentially short lived, classic tracks have been set where snow allows and the sled hill has been groomed and will be available for use on Saturday (2/21). Grooming will not occur again on the sled hill until more snow accumulates and classic tracks may not be reset until conditions permit the larger snowcat to groom again. Moving forward we will touch up the skate lanes daily with the snowmobile until additional snow returns. Coverage remains thin, but skiing should be enjoyable this weekend.
Trail Creek
The Husky was hard at it on Friday with the 1st agenda item being a pass through the woods trails focusing on widening. In the narrower sections the classic track was reset and in the wider sections grooming was skate only. 2nd on the agenda was buffing out the field which had experienced a smidge of drifting with double passes and fresh double classic tracks. 3rd was “first of the season” grooming through the East Fields. The woods and close fields are skiing lovely. East Field looks lovely but will be pretty soft for a day or two.
Go have fun on your skis, snowshoes, fat bike or feet!
