Big Giant Tremendous Thank You!

From all of us who have been working to create and maintain this community resource as a valuable asset for our winter trails ecosystem, along with hosting the annual free ski, fat bike and snowshoe event each January, we are incredibly touched by the generosity of YOU ALL, our Nordic and winter trails community. At over $25,000, our very first official Old Bill’s Fun Run check from the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole was bigger than our dreams! We are so excited to keep breathing life into those dreams, connecting people to trails, to this beautiful place, to each other, and to the importance of being excellent stewards.

The National Park Service invites you to help us reimagine the Taggart Lake experience

The National Park Service wants to hear from you as we consider improvements to the Taggart Lake experience at Grand Teton National Park. This popular year-round trailhead supports a range of recreational pursuits from hiking in summer to skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Taggart Lake is also a place where visitors of varying physical abilities and hiking familiarity have an opportunity to experience the backcountry. Growing visitation to the trailhead has led to overflow parking, deteriorated trail conditions, trail crowding, vegetation loss and insufficient facilities.

“We are asking people from near and far to weigh in on how we can continue to preserve the park and provide opportunities for high-quality experiences in the Taggart Lake area,” said Grand Teton National Park Superintendent Chip Jenkins.

A public comment period begins today, October 18, and will last through November 21, 2024. The park will host a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. MST. For meeting information and to submit your written comments, please visit the project website.

JHNordic Alliance
at the 10th Annual WYSAW

JH Nordic Alliance hosted a table on the Center for the Arts balcony during last weekend’s Wyoming Snow and Avalanche Workshop, nestled in between Coombs Outdoors and Friends of Pathways. Of course we shared all about the online community resource for all things Nordic and winter trails. As important was connecting with other partners who were there and listening to sessions to learn about how we can make our resources better in regards to skier/rider/walker safety in the mountains.

Eight lucky raffle winners will be sporting JH Nordic Alliance as the temperatures drop and snow starts to fall.

October Nature News
Peak time to view fall colors and wildlife activity in Jackson Hole

Provided by The Hole Hiking Experience
October is the peak time to enjoy wildlife activity amidst the brilliant array of fall color in Jackson Hole. As the season changes, aspen and cottonwoods turn a brilliant yellow, and recent temperatures have kept the colors vibrant. This time of year is often referred to as “Indian Summer,” which is defined as a period of warm or mild weather. Looks like this trend will continue well into October.

Tour Suggestion
River bottoms and aspen groves showcase amazing fall foliage. Consider a float down the river to do some leaf peeping. The Aspen Trail, near Darby Canyon, offers a glorious walk this time of the year. Trails in Grand Teton Park are less busy. Consider a hike to Surprise and Amphitheater Lakes.

Summer tours end October 27th. Winter tours begin on November 24th. Join us this winter for snowshoeing tours or winter wildlife tours to see and learn about the magnificent nature Jackson Hole has to offer in the colder months. The office will remain open. Book tours online or give us a call!

The winter calendar is starting with save-the-dates, https://jhnordic.com/events/.
