Daily Trail Report for 2.11.26.

What an exciting day for Nordic skiing! Ben Ogden won a silver medal in the men’s cross-country classic sprint Tuesday morning, 50 years and 5 days after Bill Koch last won a medal in cross-country skiing at the Olympics! Way to go Ben! And congratulations to all of his teammates, coaches, wax techs, friends and family; while Nordic racing is most often an individual pursuit, it is also a team effort.

A little closer to home, a bunch of Teton skiers representing their six respective colleges and universities are working hard and having fun skiing in the eastern carnival circuit. Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) Carnivals are a series of six collegiate races hosted around the northeast. The top skiers from the EISA will compete nationally in the NCAA championships in March.

Clockwise from left: Nate, Sydney, Peter, Bridger, Mason, Abby, Lena, Aurora and Natalie. Nine JHSC and TVSEF (now GTSSF) alums representing Bates, Colby, Middlebury, Saint Lawrence, University of New Hampshire, and University of Vermont at the UVM Carnival, Craftsbury, Vermont, 2.7.26

Grooming in both valleys is once again a balance of preserving snow, preserving the earth underneath and keeping the tracks in great shape for skiers and fat bikers.

We do our best to bring you the full story every morning, and the most current trail conditions can always be viewed online at: www.jhnordic.com/grooming/

Groomer Updates

Trail Creek

A strange white crystalline substance fell from the skies overnight, blanketing the trails with 3-4 inches of a delightfully cold and skiable substance, snow perhaps?  The last major snowfall occurred on January 9th so it has definitely been a bit of a dry spell.  The forecast has numerous additional chances of snow going forward, so hopefully we’ve turned the corner and will be rebuilding our bases. The Husky had the day off Tuesday and will hopefully be returning to service Wednesday after a bit of maintenance.

Shooting Star

Changing conditions. There are bare areas around the clubhouse and ponding is still present in several areas. I would again recommend avoiding usage on the track until more snow accumulates and temperatures stabilize the profile. Outlook is calling for more promising snow totals beginning next week. We’ll do what we can to aid trail coverage; however, we need assistance from mother nature. This upcoming week may be a temporary speed bump until next week’s heavier snow arrives.

TVTAP

Teton Canyon – We continue to groom, working with Mother Nature (eg schedule can change to preserve snow).

Alta – Classic tracks are on hold until more snow arrives. Watch for thin spots and try not to drag mud onto snow.

Driggs, Teton Reserves, Sherman Park – No grooming.

Southern Valley Nordic – The trails within the trees are still skiable. The approaches are in jeopardy but walkable, please avoid tracking mud onto snow while we wait for new snow to recover bare spots.

Southern Valley Singletrack – No grooming.
