Breaking News about the Teton Ridge Classic

Snow conditions have been challenging this winter for many Nordic events across the country. To ensure the Teton Ridge Classic is the quality race experience you deserve, the 2026 TRC is relocating to Grand Targhee Resort, where snow coverage is better and the skiing is excellent. Mike Harris currently has a 4’’ base, Targhee has a 4’ base!

Read the full update here. You can also register from that site if you haven’t already.

Bonus for all: Targhee will groom Quakie for the race (you can go ski there too)! And in preparation for the race or if you’re looking to improve your overall waxing knowledge, check out the TOKO wax clinic on Friday, it will offer useful tips for skiers of all levels.

Toko Wax Clinic at Yostmark Mountain Equipment in Driggs, on Friday January 30th at 6 pm.

Get ready for the TRC with a Toko Wax Clinic hosted by Toko Tech Team members Jack Hart, Randy Anderson, and Dan Streubel. They’ll be on hand to answer questions and share practical race-day waxing guidance.

Topics will include:

  • Toko’s wax recommendations for the TRC (both kick and glide)
  • Overview of new fluoro-free top coats for race application, including powders, liquids, and blocks
  • Proper application methods for top coats
  • Kick wax strategies for longer-distance classic races

Moose on the Loose

The groomer at Trail Creek has spotted a cow and calf moose “hanging out on Homeward Bound. So far this winter moose have been about as scarce as snow. Most likely the light snow winter has meant that resident moose are still higher up and making a pretty good living there. Hopefully these moose know something that the weather forecasters don’t, and have moved in because lots of snow is on the way!”

Speaking of spotting moose, the annual Moose Day is less than a month away and there are ways for you to get involved.

Moose Day is a census conducted in partnership with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Grand Teton National Park, and the Bridger-Teton National Forest. By combining observations from citizen scientists with data from wildlife managers, this effort helps better understand and monitor moose populations within Teton County, Wyoming.

Every year volunteers (especially those comfortable on xc skis or snowshoes) are needed to help with the count. If you’re interested in volunteering you will need to  sign up for a virtual training and then register for the actual day.
