A warmer and mostly sunny day will greet the area today which should all in all make for another great day to ski.  While the lack of snow for the past week has lead to a bit of the base showing through on some area trails, in general the deficient areas can be avoided easily giving you a chance for a nice Nordic outing.  Fat bikers will really appreciate the firm bases that have developed with the dryer weather; however, snow is on the way with a forecast of up to 7 inches by Thursday night.

Four Legged Company at Stilson

For the last couple of mornings a pretty good sized herd of elk have been hanging out on the Stilson Loop of the  Wilson Centennial Trail.  They have been gone by mid-morning, but you might want to give them a little room.

Trail Creek Grooming Report

Fast Skiers!

It was a good two days of racing in Casper as many of our high school age skiers were giving their all on Casper Mountain.  Top finishers for Saturday’s Classic race include Andie Cornish for the girl’s varsity and Reed Carlman for the boys.  Check out this link for more results and images, many thanks to Coach Kathryn.

If you are thinking of having your own Nordic race today, you should seriously consider coming on out to Trail Creek today as things are looking pretty nice.  As of 11:45 AM the temperature was a very pleasant -6ºC/21ºF with no wind and no clouds.  Today’s grooming was mostly Pisten Bully skate grooming on all recently groomed trails.

Classic tracks are available on about half of the trails and a while a few spots in the woods are becoming a bit thin, all in all skiing is good.  The forecast calls for snow over the next few days which would be appreciated to freshen the trails and hopefully bring enough for classic tracks everywhere.

Conditions remain great and should provide fun skiing through the weekend. Outlook is calling for some new snow accumulations for the middle of next week, which may finally allow us to set classic tracks…keep your fingers crossed! Next update will likely be this Wednesday.

Below are some other details:

  • Tight corners may be soft/rough  as its difficult for the grooming equipment to navigate through them(Example: Sharp Turn from 8 Green to 9 Tees)
  • Early Season Conditions Persist (Rocky/grassy/Inconsistent profile depth & compaction)
  • Be aware of soft spots
  • No Classic Track will be set until snowpack increases
  • Conditions will improve as more snow accumulates
  • Grooming frequencies may vary depending on snow conditions

Enjoy!

7:30am: The levee is finished and still in good shape. I am just starting Stilson and should be done around 9:30.

8:50am: Stilson is finished and looking good although the resident elk herd is out and about so they may have torn up the loop a bit. But still worth a ski and coming to check them out since it seems they will be around for awhile. The school fields will be done around 11:00am.

Alta Track

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
Last Updated: 12/9/2018 11:08:37
Skate: Good  |  Classic: Good
Comments: I ran three laps around this morning. The classic track is reset and looks good. The skate track is also fully reset. The southern loops look really good and the northern loops are still variable with a few soft spots and a wee bit of grass showing through in the thin spots but completely skiable. Enjoy!

Driggs

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 12/6/2018 20:45:13

Comments:Plowed a bunch of snow in the ditches and rolled out the trail to establish a base. The base depth is more shallow than the mowed grass. I’d recommend waiting till we get a few more inches of snow before skiing the Driggs Track. Let it snow!!!
