General Weather – Snow with temps starting to cool

Precipitation is guaranteed today according to Mountain Weather. Temperatures are forecasted to be warm today but there appears to be a cooling trend which will help to get more ski trails groomed in the near future.

Check out the snow totals graph below. Snowfall amounts can vary widely from one location to another. In general, the Town of Jackson will get less snow than locations along the base of the mountains (Wilson, Teton Village & Moose). As you go further north into Grand Teton National Park (Moran, Colter Bay & South Gate of Yellowstone), expect much more snow than what is forecasted here. Mountain snowfall will vary widely by elevation & location, depending on favored flow directions & wind redistribution.

What’s Groomed Today?

Targhee – Tues / Thur / Sat / Sun *classic track is set!

   Teton Pines – Daily

   Trail Creek – Daily

Turpin Meadow Ranch – Daily

Grooming in the coming days is very weather dependent, things may change and there is always possibilities of bonus grooms… so please check out the latest information on trail conditions here:  www.jhnordic.com/grooming

Next Sunday is the Annual Event at Turpin

This winter trails celebration is a day full of great people and fun ways to get out on winter trails. Bring your own gear and/or try this year’s demo equipment.

Every participant must have a signed waiver BEFORE they step on the trails. Completing the waiver from home makes check in at registration easier and faster for all. Please sign the waiver before 9pm, Saturday, January 10. (You are also welcome to sign the waiver upon your arrival, it just takes a little more time).

Fat Bike Etiquette

Fat biking is a great way to enjoy winter and elicit smiles

As you probably know, fat biking is a blast. In just a few short years, the sport has grown rapidly and fat bikes are now a familiar sight on winter trails throughout the Jackson and Teton Valley areas. Many of these trails are multi-use, shared by hikers, dogs, Nordic skiers, snowmobilers, and fat bikers all enjoying winter in close proximity.

With that shared access comes shared responsibility. Thoughtful trail etiquette helps keep winter recreation safe and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Bikes yield to all other users. When approaching others on the trail, remember they have the right-of-way. Slow down, offer a friendly “hello,” and allow them to pass safely.
  • Slow down in busy areas. Trailheads and popular corridors can be crowded. Ride cautiously or consider walking your bike when others are present. While on trail, be mindful that Nordic skiers may need extra width. Always signal before passing to avoid surprises.
  • Ride only when trails are firm. Avoid riding when the surface is soft and you’re leaving ruts deeper than 1 inch. This causes lasting damage to groomed trails. Tires 3.8” or wider are recommended, and significantly lowering tire pressure may be necessary to reduce impact and improve traction.
  • Stay out of the classic ski tracks. These tracks are carefully set for skiers and should be respected at all times.
  • Give wildlife space. Winter is a challenging season for animals. If wildlife is present, consider turning around or choosing an alternate route; no ride is worth stressing wildlife.
  • Know where fat bikes are allowed. While many groomed and forest trails are multi-use, there are important exceptions. Areas such as Trail Creek and Teton Pines are skier-only. Additionally, Grand Teton National Park does not allow winter fat bike use on the main groomed track between the Bradley/Taggart and Signal Mountain Lodge gates.

By riding responsibly and respectfully, fat bikers help preserve trail access and ensure a positive experience for all who venture out onto Jackson’s winter trails.

Updates from the Groomers

Lots in Common

Our local groomers have been dealing with unseasonable and interesting conditions and they are doing a phenomenal job maintaining the snow on each of their respective groomed areas. Another thing they all seem to have in common is an optimism that trails will continue to improve over the coming days, so get out there and thank your local ski trail groomers by enjoying their hard work.
