NEW! GTNP Grooming 3 Days a Week Starting Sunday

Thanks to generous support from Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, State of Wyoming Recreational Trails Program, Skinny Skis, Dornan’s, and many individuals, GTNPF is pleased to add a third day of grooming per week for the remainder of the winter season.

The 14-mile stretch of road between Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain in Grand Teton National Park will be groomed three times per week starting on Sunday, January 6. Adding another day to the previous Tuesday and Friday schedule will provide more consistent snow surfaces, especially for Nordic skiers. This winter marks the sixth consecutive season Grand Teton National Park Foundation (GTNPF) has funded regular grooming of the Teton Park Road. The road will be groomed between Taggart Lake Trailhead and South Jenny Lake on Tuesdays and Sundays, and the entire length to Signal Mountain on Fridays. When deep snow limits many park users’ abilities to explore Grand Teton, the groomed road creates easy access for cross country skiers, snowshoers, and walkers.

“We are pleased to be able to provide this resource to park visitors during winter,” Grand Teton National Park Foundation President Leslie Mattson said. “Grand Teton is spectacular this time of year and we hope people will take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore the park.”
Grooming will continue through mid-March. Be sure to check current conditions before you go, especially during stormy periods as grooming is weather and condition dependent. For updates visit www.gtnpf.org or follow GTNPF on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

It’s a Party!

Anyone that’s anybody in the local Nordic world will probably be making the short jaunt to Turpin Meadow Ranch tomorrow for the 3rd annual Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance Free Ski and Fat Bike Day.  Free demos on Nordic skis and fat bikes will be available as well as a tasty spread of reasonably priced food, not to mention free skiing on Turpin Meadow’s amazing ski and bike trails will make for an awesome outing.  There might even be room on the bus if you emailed info@jhnordic.com right away.  Hours are from 10-3; make your plans to check out this special Valley event.

In other area Nordic News, most of the area high school age Nordic skiers are competing in Pinedale today at a Wyoming High School competition.  Coach Paddock was kind enough to email results yesterday; you can check them out here.

Here at Trail Creek today the 9:30 AM conditions are mostly sunny and calm with a temperature of -14ºC/7ºF.  While yesterday’s grooming reset all classic tracks, today’s grooming was a complete best line Pisten Bully reset of all skate lanes.  All in all conditions are great.  There is a lot of moose traffic, but except for a few wandering tracks, mostly what you will find is K’s and K’s of crisp classic tracks and firm sculpted corduroy.

Snow does once again enter the forecast for Sunday; current models call for around 5 inches tonight with total amounts of up to 11 inches through Monday.

Groomer’s choice for today is the fields.

Grand Targhee Grooming Report
Last Updated: 1/5 @ 8am

A little sunshine in the morning, warmer temperatures and increasing clouds by the afternoon will usher in another series of powder-ski bonanzas through Monday. The high road on this incoming storm is up to 22″ new snow, the low road 11″ and the middle road is looking somewhere around 16″. So no matter what road this storm ends up taking, there’s going to be a lot of snow on it come Monday evening; returning Grand Targhee to the ole cold and snowy we all love. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the 24-hour period starting tonight.

Cross Country/Fat Bike 15k: XC OPEN (Last groomed AM 1/1/2019), Fat Bike OPEN.
