Looking Back at the 2020-21 Nordic Ski Season

The end of the year can be a great time for reflection. We are still early in this Nordic season but it is fun to glide down memory lane and see all that we did as a community in 2020-21. While we may groan and wish to forget a lot of the recent past there were some incredible highlights worth celebrating. Enjoy these memories and get out there to make some more. Please share with us YOUR Nordic season highlights by emailing trailconditions@jhnordic.com.

Friends of Pathways Cache Creek Winter Grooming Fundraiser

HO HO HO – LOOK WHAT SANTA DELIVERED TO FOP…AND JUST IN THE ST. NICK OF TIME!

NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP putting this shiny new sled to work and keeping 12 miles of singletrack in Cache Creek open during the winter.

If you enjoy walking, running, skiing or fat biking along the beautiful Hagen trail during the winter, please consider donating to FOP’s winter grooming program. New equipment will help our groomers cover more terrain more efficiently, but the trails don’t groom themselves!

Last winter there were 24,275 users on the Hagen Trail and Cache Creek Road enjoying the groomed trails. If you use these trails, please donate today and share this campaign with your friends and fellow trail users!

FOP will update Cache single track grooming status on social channels, or for a more complete grooming schedule, go to JH Nordic.

Guiding The News & Guide

The word is apparently out that we have a new Prinoth Husky careening around our trails and as Jackson Hole News and guide got that word, they wanted to come check it out for themselves.  Intern Reed Mattison stopped by this morning to see the Husky in action; look for a feature in next week’s Wednesday edition of the weekly.

Today’s feature is that another 4-6 inches of snow has blanketed the trails of Trail Creek.  However, our new Husky on its adventurous tour of the ski tracks today did a bang up job of whipping things into shape.  Most every trail except for the East Fields received at least one pass with classic tracks on around 65% of the trails.

While there was a pretty good morning crowd today, this afternoon’s venue is a little lighter than usual with only the Prep/Comp team practicing.  Look for late afternoons to get quite busy next week as all programs, even the littlest ones, will be on snow beginning Monday.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.

Last Update: 12/30

Windy, drifty, and less than ideal conditions are to be expected all day as another winter storm passes through. The snowcat was able to limp through and groom the yellow loop but would recommend waiting until this system passes after Friday morning before venturing out on your next Nordic adventure. We are expecting the Pistenbully service tech to arrive this morning and we’ll troubleshooting it out into the field today. … so be aware that skiers may encounter us on the trails throughout the day. Fingers crossed we can get it fixed! I’ll try and update everyone again Friday.

We will cover more than the basics to get you skating longer distances with ease and going up and down hills with proficiency and confidence. Each session will be part instruction with plenty of time to ski and practice. $50/Clinic or $135 for all 3 ($45/Clinic for Teton Pines Nordic Center season pass holders). Rentals available for $35. Trail pass is included.

Instructor: Kim Springer Kim grew up warming her fingers in the Octagon on Mt. Mansfield in Stowe, Vermont.
