SKI REPORTS

The snow has continued to fall at the rate of 1-5 inches per day depending on where you are in the area.  Game Creek was reported to be skiing quite well for classic skis on last week’s roller grooming which probably mirrors the conditions of most of Teton County Wyoming’s grooming areas.  Trail Creek while still a little rough is skiing as well as ever for this time of year with lots of happy skiers.  Teton Pines, Shooting star, and Teton Canyon are also all reporting good early season conditions.  Another report received from Kelly Warm Springs reports classic tracks heading up several kilometers although beware as the elk hunting season has been ongoing; be careful.  Finally a report was received of happy skiers in Grand Teton Park posted below where although there has been a couple of inches of fresh snow since the last grooming, conditions look like fun.

Report date: 12/2

JH Nordic Alliance received the images below showing happy faces on the Teton Park Road.  Due to overnight snow Friday ( after grooming), Monday skiing will be best for classic, as classic track was set and is still skiing well. Next grooming is Tuesday morning, better to wait to skate ski until then.  Thanks to the contributor.

Pick your Trail!

The word must be out that there is some nice skiing at Trail Creek because there has been a good crowd out already today.  Even though there are many fresh ski tracks by 11:45 AM today, you should have no problem finding plenty of room for your great Nordic ski.  Current conditions are still a bit cool at -12ºC/10ºF but the wind is calm and the sign is trying to burn through a very thin overcast.

Today’s grooming was with the Pisten Bully on pretty much every trail.  The majority of the grooming was skate only but yesterday’s classic tracks, while a bit sketchy in places, are mostly still there.  If you are using the classic technique today you will want to be in and out the tracks most likely.  The big news for today is that the trails connecting to and immediately adjacent to the end of the Old Pass Road have been groomed for the first time this year so that those members who love to stay in the woods can do so.

Skiing should continue to be good all week although we are one good dump away from perfection.

Groomer’s choice for today is the recently groomed trails near the end of the Old Pass Road.

Update 12/2

All trails are now open! Skiing should be great considering the time of year. We’re still a ways out for the snow to be deep enough for setting the classic tracks. Bundle up and enjoy the blue bird forecast. Next update will likely be Thursday.

Below are some other details:

  • Tight corners may be soft/rough  as its difficult for the grooming equipment to navigate through them(Example: Sharp Turn from 8 Green to 9 Tees)
  • Early Season Conditions Persist (Rocky/grassy/Inconsistent profile depth & compaction)
  • Be aware of soft spots
  • No Classic Track will be set until snowpack increases
  • Conditions will improve as more snow accumulates
  • Grooming frequencies may vary depending on snow conditions

Enjoy!

Last Updated: 11/30

9:20am: The levee and Stilson were rolled with the snowmobile this morning. Grooming will resume next week following the grooming schedule that can be found on JHNordic.com/grooming. Monday Bushong will be grooming Cache Creek with a Pistenbully to Noker Mine Draw.

2:22pm: I do not have a way to set track with the snowmobile. Next week I should be able to get the Pistenbully out on most trails so I will set classic track then.

With over 10 inches of fresh snow now groomed into the Nordic trails, and more snow overnight Friday, the Nordic trails are in excellent shape for both skate and classic. Fat Bike single track trails are also very good. Reminder that dogs are not allowed on nordic and fat bike trails. Be sure to purchase a trail pass. And after a huge overnight snowstorm, grooming may be slightly delayed, as the GTR groomers work to get all 3 trails systems open (alpine, nordic and fat bike).

Teton Springs

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

Last Updated: 12/2/2018 5:12:19
Skate: Poor  |  Classic: Poor
Comments: Saturday, 12/1 Teton Springs was groomed for the first time this year. I’m giving the trail a “poor” condition due to the amount of vegetation poking through the groomed surface in a few areas. Most of the trail is in good condition. We need one more storm and the trail will be great.
Ski carefully as the base depth is only a few inches deep.
