of Nordic skiing in Jackson Hole

Congrats to local JH Ski Club Nordic skier, Annabelle Hagen, for Rotary Scholarship

The Jackson Hole Rotary Lunch Club presented its “Students of the Season” awards Tuesday, recognizing outstanding high school students from Jackson Hole High School, Jackson Hole Community School, Teton Science School, and Summit Innovations High School.

Dr. Scott Crisp, Jackson Hole High School Principal, introduced Rotary to senior Annabelle Hagen. Among her many athletic accomplishments, Annabelle is a 4-time Wyoming Nordic state champion. Hagen cited her Jackson roots and the history of her family as examples that “grit and perseverance” will help her find future success after high school.

“I am grateful for my siblings who have made me tough and my family who are all huge influences on my life,” says Annabelle Hagen. “I look forward to my future and the open doors before me.”

Annabelle will attend Harvard University in the fall where she will be a skier on their Division I Nordic Ski Team.

Trail Creek Report

Last Updated: 3/19

Splendiferous Spring Day!

Even though the calendar says it’s not quite spring, it sure feels like it today at Trail Creek.  The brilliant sunshine is rapidly warming the temperature as it is passing through freezing at noon. There is also no wind to slow you down on your great Nordic ski today.

Today’s grooming was double passes with the Pisten Bully around the perimeter of the field trails and through all major woods trails.  On the negative side the classic track setter had a tough time penetrating the hard snow early on and some of the close woods trails have more than ample poop to contend with but positively speaking most skate lanes as of report time are skiing really nicely.

We are now entering that time of year when conditions can go from scary icy to incredibly awesome to a slushy slogfest all in the course of a day.  Be sure to pick your time correctly and you’ll find plenty of great skiing yet this year.

Next tentative grooming will be Wednesday afternoon in order to put in some sharp classic tracks with approximately every other day grooming until March 30th.

A quick update on the Snowy Cabin; see the pictures below, the really fascinating thing about this winter is the overhangs that have developed as the snow has mushroomed out almost three feet beyond the edge of the roof, kind of amazing!

Groomer’s choice for today is to time your ski correctly.

Plowing has begun at both the north and south ends of the Park road, meeting in the middle. The Park’s intention was to start today, and we believe that they did.

Please do not ski on the road that has not yet been plowed, as this trail is closed for the season

We will keep everyone informed when the road re-opens to bikes, walkers, and other modes of human-powered transport.

The equinox! That means 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night. The days will just keep getting longer now, through the rest of the season. You know what that means? More daylight ski and après! Thank you Mother Nature! Another sunny day, with highs nearing 44 degrees. Winds will be SE ranging from 4-10 mph. Snow is on the way, so stay tuned!

Just finished grooming the Yeti. It always takes longer than anticipated…so much hair. Anyways, classic track is set for counter-clockwise skiing and the skate lane should be amazing. The trail is rather narrow so pay attention and stay in control.
