Teton Canyon

Teton Valley

Fee: $0.00 - donations appreciated

Access:

From Driggs ID, drive east on Ski Hill Road (in the direction of Grand Targhee Ski Resort). Turn right onto Teton Canyon Road, parking area is at trailhead.

Description:

The trail begins southeast from the parking area, following the snow-covered groomed road that serves as the summer access to Teton Canyon. This trail provides outstanding views of the Grand, Middle, and South Tetons from the western side.

Skiing Experience: Ideal for classic and skate skiing on mostly level terrain.

Directions: The trail remains flat for around 5 miles (10 miles round trip). The trail comes to a climax at a cul-de-sac near the summer parking lot and trailhead for Alaska Basin. Close to the trail's end, there are optional loops for classic skiing off the main road.

Extended Exploration: For classic/BC skiers, an additional skier-tracked trail extends from the end of the groomed trail. This trail heads east, passing a frozen waterfall and traversing meadows and forests. After 1 mile, the trail ascends into the Canyon's back, but caution is advised due to increased difficulty and avalanche risk. As steepness increases, the difficulty rises out of the range of most skinny skiers and becomes the domain of the AT skier. The risk of avalanche exposure also increases as the trail runs below steeper side slopes and is beyond the scope of this trail guide.

Return: Head back to the trailhead from the cul-de-sac/end of the groomed trail.

Grooming: is done by "Teton Valley Trails and Pathways" (TVTAP), a local nonprofit relying on contributions for grooming services. Generous contributions to TVTAP.org are encouraged to maintain both winter and summer trails in Teton Valley.

Dog Owners: Please be respectful and manage your dog. Keep dogs on a leash for the first 100 yards of the trail. Clean up after your dog to maintain the environment.
