RimRock Ranch Trail- Wyoming Range

Gros Ventre & Wyoming Ranges

Fee: $0.00

Access:

Hwy 191/189, 4 1/2 miles south of Hoback Junction toward Bondurant, turn off at "concrete Moose" on right. Drive approx 1 mile to summer trailhead over snow covered road. Park to allow space for others.

Description:

From the car park area, a small trail head is located to the east (left facing up the drainage), beyond an old wood ranch fence. Begin traversing uphill from here (old ski tracks can be seen except on the snowiest of day). After climbing approx. 100 yrds, the ski track will join a wider forest service road running south-southeast through open pasture, then into open aspen glades. The forest service trail is well marked by snowmobile tracks, and continues all the way to the top of Adams Pass, climbing progressively through aspen and conifer forests. 1/3 of a mile before the pass summit, the slope opens up where a landslide occurred years ago. On the way up, the view of multi-summited Beaver Mountain (Wyoming Range) open to the east. Upon cresting Adam’s Pass ( at mile 2.6), the view opens up to the south across Willow Creek valley. The trail bears left on the saddle ridge then descents gradually through an open, old growth pine forest. We found a pine tree that must have dated back over 2 hundred years. We stopped here and had lunch, however, one can continue down into the Willow Creek Valley to the southeast to the old now abandoned ranch. Return via the same trail – the ski back only takes half the time due to the nice downhill easy slope.
